An old master found a little boy in the woods in which he lived and he chose to take him under his wing. He named the boy 'Goku' and under the master's training he became very strong. When the old master passed away, he gave him his Dragon Ball.
Goku, is chopping wood with his bare hands, while at the same time a stranger in a car is coming towards him. A girl called Bulma is in the car, she says there is a Dragon Ball somewhere around here.
When Goku goes out for food, the ball starts shining. He goes out looking for the river, flying across tree-tops. When eating an apple on a tree branch he pisses off a saber tooth tiger that starts chasing him. Goku tricks him into falling into a ravine, but by accident he falls in it as well, but he lands in the water, finding the river he was looking for.
Goku uses his tail to catch a fish (he has a tail!). The fish he caught is huge and when walking back home Bulma's car suddenly comes speeding up, hitting Goku. Goku things the car is a monster and he picks up the car throwing it a few feet. Bulma surrenders, telling him she's human. She climbs out of the car and Goku starts inspecting her, saying she's different. Bulma says she's a girl, but Goku apparently never met a girl. Goku also notices she doesn't have a tail and Bulma starts thinking Goku is kinda crazy. Bulma grabs a bleeper thingie, that apparently shows where the Dragon Balls are located. Goku invites Bulma to his home.
Goku and Bulma tell one another their name and Goku starts making fun of Bulma's name. When entering Goku's house the Dragon Ball is shining again and Bulma grabs it. Goku seems to think that the ball is his Grandpa. Bulma grabs 2 more Dragon Balls from her purse. She tells there are 7 Balls in total and if someone bad gets the balls it could mean the end of the world.
We switch to a dungeoun-like environment, where a small blue guy called Emperor Pilafalso has a Dragon Ball. Two of his 'minions' tell him that they need all 7 Dragon Balls and when they have all 7, a dragon will arise whom will grant 1 wish, whatever it may be. Pilaf has a vision in which becomes clear he wants to rule the world.
Bulma says the rest of the Dragon Balls are scattered around the world. Bulma wants Goku's Dragonball but Goku refuses. Bulma has the idea to go find the balls together. Bulma tries to persuade Goku by telling him about all the adventures in the world. Actually Bulma just wants to use Goku as her bodyguard till she has all 7 Balls so she can make her wish: the best boyfriend in the world.
Goku asks Bulma how they are gonna find the Dragon Balls and Bulma shows him her 'Bleeper' which shows where the balls are located. Because Goku demolished Bulma's car, she has to provide them with new transport, so she throws a capsule on the ground, which with a big poof changes into a motor cycle. Goku is freaked out and says all girls are some kind of witches. He finally gets on the bike.
Bulma stops because she has to take a 'pit-stop'. Quickly she yells Goku to help and apparently Bulma is taken captive by a big dinosaur kinda bird. He flies away and Goku goes after her on the bike. He jumps up but can't reach her. He takes his 'power-pole' which extends and he smashes the life out of the bird. Bulma starts falling, but Goku saves her.
After recovering from the small crisis, Goku and Bulma continue their adventure, to find all 7 Dragonballs.
